Sunday Showdowns

Cleveland +13 @ Baltimore
Should be a yawner here. Baltimore has an aging defense, but was impressive in a road victory over a good Chargers team last week. If this offense continues to put points on the board, something we haven't seen from Baltimore ever, then this team is going to be scary. Flacco is starting to look more and more like a real NFL QB as opposed to a game manager relying on the defense. Baltimore rolls in the game, and covers.

Tennesee Titans +3 @ NY Jets:
Both teams surprised me last week. I had the Titans primed for a victory against the Texans and the Jets dead against the Pats. Tennessee needs to turn their season around. They are in an 0-2 hole and can't afford to start 0-3 against the AFC. The jets beat the Patriots, but how impressive is that seeing as the Patriots seem to be just another solid team this year, and people might have to curb expectations that they can't go 16-0 every year. I take the points and the Titans straight up. They are desperate and will show it.

Packers -6.5 @ St. Louis
Packers bounce back here and St. Louis is just too one dimensional at this point. They have quite the putrid offense, though they have played on the road against solid defenses the first two weeks vs Seattle and Washington. Until they can prove to throw the ball around Steven Jackson will be keyed on and have to earn every yard. I forgot who mentioned this to me, but it was a great point that Jackson is probably thinking if he was playing with the greatest show on turf he is a Hall of famer and a superbowl MVP. Very unlucky as I think he is still one of the better backs in the league. I take the Packers and lay the points until St. Louis proves they can score.

Washington Redskins -6.5 @ Detroit Lions
This is the play of the day folks. Ride the Lions and Ride them hard. Washington is so bad. Zorn won't take the leashes of Campbell and Portis is running against 10 man fronts. Detroit is not terrible and most teams would be 0-2 after starting vs the Saints and Vikings, two Superbowl contenders in most minds. I think the Lions win this game and break the 19 game losing streak, but I definitely think they at least cover. Lions have some skilled offensive players and if they get a score or two it will be hard for the Skins to put up much more.

Chiefs +8.5 @ Philly Eagles:
I take the Eags here, Chiefs just bore me. Vick action this week?

Atlanta Falcons +4 @ NE Patriots:
Real Tough game here. It will be interesting to see how the Patriots rebound after a tough loss last week. I guess I need to stop doubting the Falcons, because they seem to be just really good. I think NE is just an average team, and the whole AFC seems pretty average in general. That being said I take the Patriots @ home and lay the points.

Jaguars +3.5 @ Houston Texans:
Weird game here, not sure what to make of either of these teams. Jacksonville just looks very bland and the Texans seem to be hit an miss. Texans ultimately have to many playmakers in Schaub, Slaton, and the best receiver in the league Andre Johnson. They get it done at home.

San Francisco +7 @ Minnesota:
This will be Minnesotas first test as they won't have the Lions or Browns to beat up on for victories anymore. San Francisco has shown to be a fairly stout defense and will key on All Day Peterson. I like the Vikings to win, but San Fran Keeps it close and covers.

Giants-7 @ Tampa Bay:
Tampa Bay just does not have a good team this year and they are so susceptible by the big play. Dallas torched them for 3 long scores, and Buffalo had 2 long bombs as well as 3rd that was dropped that should have gone for the score. Giants get it done and roll to an impressive 3-0.

Saints -6 @ Buffalo Bills:
Until someone shows they can stop the Saints I think you need to keep riding them. Buffalo will be able to put up some points on this defense, though the NO does not have as weak of a defense as they shown in years past. The RB core of Bell, Bush, and Thomas is banged up and could pose for some difficulties. My heart says Bills, but my head says take the Saints and lay the points.

Bears -2 @ Seahawks:
Big win last weekend as predicted by the Bears. I like them to beat the Hawks in a close game on Sunday as either an injured Hassleback or Seneca Wallace (pick your poison) will have to get under center for the Hawks. Always tough at home though.

Steelers -4 @ Bengals.
Child Please. Kiss da baby.

Dolphins +6 @ Chargers
Chargers furious, Dolphins huge let down game. Chargers roll.

Broncos -1.5 @ Oakland
Broncos will have to prove they can beat a team outside of Ohio and Oakland is a tough place to play. I like Oakland here I guess. This team could be good if they had a QB. Should have held on to Garcia and dumped fat boy Russel.

Colts +2 @ Cardinals:
Tough game, but safety in numbers is to take Peyton on Prime time getting points.

Carolina -9 @ Cowboys:
Cowboys get the first win in the new palace, but the Panthers should be able to get a late meaningless score for the backdoor cover.

  1. Agreed with most. Don't think Baltimore should be laying 13 to anyone though, sure the offense is a little better but without a dominant defense their team just isn't that good, bottom line. Jamal Lewis probably helps Cleveland and I think they may just win outright.

St. Louis should cover, catching near a TD at home, Steven Jackson got it going last week. Worried their line will hold up vs the GB blitzes, but if they do even a decent job it might be enough.

Doubt the Giants cover. Should not be laying a TD on the road against a team you could argue is not a great matchup.

  2. Just read Peter King's latest article on SI.com. He referred to JaMarcus Russell's accuracy as "putrid." Perhaps a shoutout to this underrated, pewch blog?

    Just a thought...

Also, Miami is in must-win mode. I liked what I saw last week and hopefully traveling coast-to-coast won't be too detrimental.

I also have some faith in the Bills, especially at home.

Also, I loved the NY Jets post. I have this weird mancrush on the Jets. I used to absolutely HATE them, even more than the Patsys, but this new swagger is a bit contagious.
