Raider Nation is Back?

So the Raiders, of course, ended up losing to the Chargers in the nightcap, but it would appear that the Raiders are not going to be the laughing stock of the league this year.

They held a lead much of the game and by all accounts arguably outplayed the San Diego Chargers - a team most feel is a legitimate Super Bowl contender.

They got it done with an offensive line that looked downright dominant, opening up big holes for Darren McFadden and Michael Bush, and perhaps more importantly - gave Jamarcus Russell some time to sit back in the pocket and make some downfield throws.

Russell is ultimately the guy who is likely to hold this team back. He still is far too inaccurate to be a consistent and successful NFL quarterback, and his decision making is often questionable. Still, he has a big arm and if the Raiders offensive line continues to block for him he is capable of making a couple big throws a game which might just be enough for the Raiders to play .500 ball this season.

Richard Seymour was an absolute monster last night and he looks extremely motivated. This is a very talented defense that really only needed one more guy on the defensive line who could take up a couple blockers. Seymour demands that kind of attention and everyone is going to play better for it.

Disappointing loss, but encouraging effort for Raider Nation. This team will likely go as far as Jamarcus can take them.

  1. Sorry Rex. Ill give the raiders running game some props. I liked the "run the ball down your throat" mentality last night. I didnt see the whole game, but I agree that Jamarcus could be the downfall. Too bad Jeff Garcia just signed with the Eagles.

  2. Raiders should have never cut Jeff Garcia. Couldve mayb been a 10 win team after seeing that relatively impressive defense last night.
