Random Musings

-Zack Greinke struck out 15 Indians to just 1 walk last night. Just a ridiculous performance...and while the Indians suck, their lineup had actually started to click a bit despite losing Victor. Pie finally got it going and Marte and LaPorta were slugging the ball around a touch.

-The Bo Sox get Wagner. It will be interesting to see what they do with him. Clearly, it would appear they are going to get rid of Papelbon and end up putting Bard in as their new closer. In the mean time, I'm not so sure how effective Wagner will be. His first outing vs the Braves, he appeared to have no command. He went 1-2-3 but that's only because Chipper swung at a 3-0 pitch that was a borderline strikes at best. That said, another power arm, left-handed at that, can't really hurt. By the way, looks like the Mets are shutting down Johan and Putz. What an absolute nightmare of a season for your unveiling of a stadium.

-Joba, predictably, looked terrible last night. Some serious cause for concern for Yanks fans.

-Good to see the Jets named Sanchez the starting QB. I was going to make a lengthy post about the situation yesterday. Essentially, he made a couple mistakes against the Ravens first team defense. One was inexcusable, but the one Lewis dropped happens to even the most veteran of QBs. Clemons then didn't even really outplay him vs the second-teamers. Besides that, the Jets are going to be very good in a couple years..but I think they are going to surprise a lot of people this year as well. They have very strong offensive and defensive lines. Leon Washington is a stud, and everyone is raving about Shonn Greene. They are some experience at QB and a couple more pieces away from being true contenders. But they are going to be better than Buffalo, and very likely Miami this year. Sorry Bills fans.

-I continue to crush Saratoga...but losing 20 bucks playing cards last night gives me an eerie feeling. Rachel Alexandra announced she won't be running in the million dollar Travers Stakes at Saratoga this Saturday. Instead she'll be running in the Woodward, a week later, which has been raised to a 750k purse. Will be interesting to see if any of the big name horses feel she is vulnerable and enter. Since the Preakness whatever she has entered has been largely avoided, though Munnings and Summer Bird took a shot at her at Monmouth...it was a no-contest.

-Staten Island.

-Happy Margarita Wednesday everyone.

  1. Staten Island comes up lame with a disappointint loss where they let San Antonio dance their way out of 3 bases loaded jams. Highlight of the game for me was when they asked the players who their favorite big leaguer was 95% of the staten island team responded Jason Marquis with a strong NY accent.

  2. Curtis, I watched that game last night. How incredible was the defense, from both squads really. Unbelievable the amount of flawless double plays these guys turned. Staten Island just could not get that one huge hit.

Loved the jason marquis call on everyone though. Love watching the coaches miked up when they go to the mound and they just give horrible advice.

  3. Very well played defensively. I thought Staten Island was the better team, but doubt either has a chance to win the whole thing.

Coaches were so pewch. You could tell they wanted to swear almost all the time, but the mic was really holdin them back.

  4. I agree. Don't see this Texas squad advancing much farther. I remember what inning it was but I think the bases were loaded and the coach came out to the mound and gave the worst advice ever. Random mumbling of "This guy will hit a homerun, paint in on the black, then come back with a curveball" Not to much to ask from a 12 year old if you ask me.
