Classic Phil

Well Lefty turned in a classic performance storming back in the final round to challenge the top spot only to fall at the end. A couple late bogey's did him in and he failed in his bid to win the Open.
Tiger himself made a bit of a run, but was relatively quiet all week in what can be described as a lackluster performance. Perhaps the Mulldog was onto something when he predicted a Tiger no show this weekend.

Hats off to Lucas Glover (who?) who took home the top spot after a previous best of a 20th place finish at a major tournament before (2007 Masters). Maybe it was because Tiger wasn't truly contending all weekend, or because the majority of guys at the top of the leader board were no namers, or because it rained all weekend and I had no clue what round anyone was playing or if I was watching live coverage....but it seemed to be a fairly disappointing Major in my eyes at least.
Props must go out to David Duval who resurfaced after about 10 years of anonymity to make a strong showing.

  1. That was pretty much the most anti-climatic ending I have ever seen. Do you think Hefty's tight pants led to his demise?

  2. Yeah anti-climatic is definitely the word. Glover did nothing but simply not-collapse. Everyone else choked essentially (Barnes lol). He didn't implode and he got it done. I don't think Lefty really choked per se, he played well, left himself a difficult, but make-able par putt and missed it...if anything I was stunned how conservative he seemed to be playing, especially noticeable on his chip shot at 18...I was expecting a vintage high sailing shot to parachutes down right next to the tin cup..instead it was sort of a punch which only gave me hope when I saw him spin the club down after the shot, but it turned out to be an ultra-conservative shot...he almost dropped the long birdie putt but was realistically too far out...he should've known it would take at least -3 to have a chance at a playoff at that point and went for it. Definitely not Phil-esque.

    Thank you Tiger Woods.

  3. Choked?! You guys understand how difficult the course is right?! This was no hillview golf course. Tiger did Tiger, 3 rounds under par, and got screwed on thursday/friday cause of the rain. Again this is the US Open, their weren't alot of birdies to be had, so no one was going to make a charge up the leader board of Monday. But you know it's easy to listen to jonny miller tear apart the players play, and then critique them.

  4. couldn't have said it better myself razmunst...one of the most difficult courses played in a while with those weather conditions...barnes and glover were lucky to avoid the rain teeing off early and that's how they were able to take charge...let tiger tee off early and he's -18 after the first round lockin up the open...he'll be back to take charge at the british since phil won't be playing

By the way, what has david duval been chompin on in the recent years, doughnuts and pies, mans a pure slob

  5. Here come the Tiger supporters making excuses for him why the poor guy didn't win. Incredible.

And yes Duval has seriously been going to town. Good chance his diet has been modeled after the Recsford classic Tony's (pizza) & Tots.

  6. Duval probably started binging on fast-food as soon as he dropped from #1 in the World. He doesn't really need to worry about his physique because ESPN doesn't carry the "Fisher Price Open - live from Boise,Idaho". Not caring that you look like a slob is one of the few perks of being ranked 882nd in the world.

  7. Because I know the knowledge the two of you possess about golf is whatever they say on TV, if you think Tiger faltered check his scores in round 3 & 4. No one put up better rounds when everyone was playing with the same conditions(-3). It took everything mother nature had to stop tiger, and even then he shit on her and posted red numbers. Last year god tried to snap his leg in half, didn't work. Mother nature is a bigger bitch!

It was pretty evident that you put the best players in the world, with the same conditions and Tiger was the better golfer, surprise?!

  8. He played what 7 holes on the first day? Hilarious to hear all the people going on and on about how difficult the conditions were, interestingly enough, there were some amateurs birdying holes at that point...the last couple holes the course had gotten difficult but most players prefer a soft course.

I don't claim to be an expert when it comes to golf, I also don't listen to the announcers much, like most sports I usually have it on mute with music playing. I really have no clue what John Miller had to say, nor could I tell you what Berman was talking about (though I could guess it had a lot to do with "backbackbackbackback" and cheesy classic rock puns that went unappreciated by the golf pundits.

Just because Tiger plays better the last couple rounds doesn't mean he wins it if they all play under the same conditions..There is an argument to be made for him being more rested based on the less rigorous schedule the players who went out there day 1 faced...And I never said the man choked, but he was outplayed this tournament, bottom line...I'm sure he will win the British, don't worry about it. But all the Tiger fans that keep complaining about the conditions are being ridiculous, you don't hear about how any of the other guys who went out on day 1 got screwed.
