Let's get the facts straight.

If you remember on Monday, Mulldog had updated the status of the pewch shortstop form poll. I have copied and pasted the blurb below.

-Thanks to all who voted, confirming that the Millman is in fact a pewch shortstop, perhaps Pewch Nation is not very shocked at the NV Blues disappointing conclusion to the season. 81% saw the Millman's form as being pewch, and insider knowledge confirms that in fact 2/3 of the votes for "not pewch" were the Millman himself. I'm sure the other unidentified family member was voting completely unbiased though

I had confirmed 2 of the 3 votes to "not pewch" was by myself. Mullen tried to claim the 3rd vote was by a family member, and technically he is wrong. I had confirmed at a happy hour last night that the 3rd vote was by PC, my sister's boyfriend....technically not family at this point. Further more, PC attended the game in which that picture was taken, and has first hand knowledge of how not pewch I was (for that game at least). The rest of you are all just haters. I then showed the pictures to sloth pig Malaney who has been living on my couch for 4 months. He agreed that I was legit, slammed all former Fredonia middle infielders, and proceeded to give me the honor of telling me he would add my pictures to his baseball scrapbook on facebook. If that isn't a sign that I am not pewch than I don't know what is.

Millman's Monday Madness

Strasburg Signs:

77 Seconds was all that stood in between the Washington Nationals and Strasburg failing to sign an agreement before the midnight deadline. We have talked about the Nationals strategy and it was good to see a franchise step up and play some hardball even though losing a player of this potential caliber and hype would have been devastating. Strasburg signed the largest ever deal for a rookie by netting $15.1M over the course of a 4 year deal. A quick $7.5 of that coming in a signing bonus. The Nats played this whole situation pretty good I thought and they were stern in standing up to Boras. Granted they still offered up $5M more than anyone else had ever received so its not like they weren't shelling some money out. Boras and Strasburg would have looked like ungrateful jack's if they turned down a rookie deal of this magnitude. They absolutely could not risk not signing and re-entering next year. Too many strange things could happen. I wouldn't expect Strasburg to make much more in terms of noise until the start of next Spring. At least there is now some hope in D.C...something to come out to the ballpark for.

Paulus named Starter:

Greg Paulus opened up Syracuse Football training camp as the #3 QB on the depth chart. Several weeks into practice and he will be the face of the Syracuse Orange football team as the starting QB. The move was really a no-brainer in my opinion. Paulus could have been terrible and I still feel he is the man you have to start. Syracuse Football is the laughing stock of not only the Big East, but of the entire NCAA. They have fallen off the map and this one proud University is an afterthought in the football world. Greg Paulus will bring a hype to the Dome which once used to host sell-out crowds and be one of the loudest most intimidating places to play.

It will be interesting to see if Paulus can succeed and how much rust he will have to shake from taking 4-5 years off to be the hated PG of the Dookies. Not really sure my reaction's on the situation. The Orange are my favorite football squad and every year I sit down and watch the first game. They get crushed. Then I hardly follow them the rest of the year. I don't particularly like Paulus (but that is only because he was @ Duke). Once again, its the right move and it has a chance to put Syracuse Football back on the map from a media perspective at least. Pretty sad state of affairs in Upstate NY football where the Bills and Cuse are willing to sign anyone just to hopefully put some fans in the seats. Maybe Paulus will be lights out and show why he was such a hot recruit coming out of CBA high school. Any chance he parlays this into a NFL career?

Buffalo Bashing:

I was listening to the clown Junkies on the radio this morning and surprise surprise it was all Redskins talk. It is the same argument every day, does Jason Campbell stink? I will save you all the trouble...yes he does. Anyways, why I bring this up is because one guy was defending all the upgrades the Skins made and was saying that Derrick Dockery (former Bill) was a big upgrade. One guy fired back that the Bills straight up cut him and he was terrible. They proceeded to argue that the Bills were just cheap and terrible.

They then had their buddy call in who is apparently a Buffalo NY native. They asked him to name the top things about Buffalo where he could only respond...uhhh, we have good architecture, and Niagara Falls, and Lake Eerie, and wings. Terrible. They then spent the next five minutes saying how terrible Buffalo is and if you live there you are an idiot. Poor Buffalo just getting shredded all over the United States.

Ocho-Cinco Tweeting:

"Damn Breaking news: I have the swagg flu, doctors say there's no cure=many celebrations, sh%# talking, interviews in auto tune, pinata, etc."

"Anyone know Jay Z, tell him before the death of autotune let me get these interviews in first, but then we can have a proper burial in the nzone.

Form is incredible

Mulldog is trying to clip me. The cat is pewch. Bottom line is....
Form might not be good, but if you take a look at this excellent frame by frame shot, the end result is clear. This Cat is hosed. Ball is already in the mitt and he is still a step from the bag. Another standout play by the millman. Don't judge me.

Going to the Ship

(Lock it up, the millman with another strike to first)

Last inning. Blues lead 4-1. 3 outs away from a trip to the Championship.

Error. 2-run home run. walk. 2-run home run. Blues trail 5-4 heading to the bottom half. What a sucker punch that inning was. Had the game wrapped up, 3 outs away from victory and Blues totally collapsed. The Blues were staring a one run deficit in the face, with hitters 6-10 due up. The season was over, there was no way this Blues team could muster up a victory...and then I remembered this was a team of destiny.

Lead off walk. Pitcher is relieved and a new guy throwing gas, but erratic steps in. Hits the next two batters. Extremely rattled and can't seem to find the zone. Bases Loaded, zero outs, down 5-4. Our 9 hitter nubbs a ball down the first base line. Just as the 1st basemen scoops up the ball he has this indecisive look on his face because he doesn't know if he should tag the runner then go home, or just go home. Clearly the man should have gone home as the pressure mounts on him and he boots the ball. Blues tie the game 5-5 with the bases loaded and zero outs still. 10th hitter steps to the plate. Nub city again. This time its a slow roller down the 3rd base line. So slow and right on the foul line that the 3rd baseman has no play for it. He waits for it to roll foul, and the ball stops dead on the line. Fair ball. Blues advance with the most unimpressive walk off victory in history!!

They are now set to face the top seed in the tournament the SilverSpring Dodgers, first place team in the A League. Best of three is set to take place Saturday, with a third game on Sunday if necessary. Let's see if these NV Blues have a little left in the tank to take home the Gold.

Final Four

Just exactly who are these NV Blues? Is this the Tampa Bay Rays all over again? The Blues were a pitiful 4-11 last year and had a first round playoff exit. This year, the Blues are a force to be reckoned with. A solid 4-1 victory last night over the Class A Springfield Rifles affirmed the belief that the Blues could compete with anyone.
Former UCF pitcher N. Perkins pitched a hell of a game. The man was dealing from the start and scattered a few hits and only one run through 7 innings of ball. The Rifles had a hard time getting solid contact all day off Perkins and he managed to have a double digit performance in K's (10).

Millman broke a scoreless game in the 4th with a rbi groundout to 2nd to make the score 1-0. A few more runs that inning, and some clutch hitting by the Blues plated 3 more, as they scored all 4 runs in the 4th. Only 4 teams remain and the Blues will face off against a familiar foe on Saturday. They face a B league team in the Yardbirds. The blues crushed the yardbirds in the first meeting by 7 runs. The second outing was the classic bat throwing incident game. That ended in a tie, but don't forget the Blues started the game with a handicap (they pitched the millman).

The Blues will be sending a legit pitcher to the mound on Saturday and they have to be heavy favorites to move on to the best of three finals the following Saturday. The yardbirds could be a tough test, but this might be a Blue year...

Best Team Ever??

STANDINGS
18 National North STANDINGS as of 07/15/09

Team W L T
NVBlues 8 2 0
OaktonOrioles 6 3 0
MGF Bandits 5 4 0
FairfaxRockies 5 5 0
Ballston Brewers 4 4 0
BeltwayBombers 4 6 0
Access Yardbirds 3 5 0
CentrevilleBlues 2 8 0
I suppose many of you are dying to know how the NV Blues are doing. Well take a look at the National North Standings and you will get a pretty good idea. The blues took a game from the Fairfax Rockies last night by a score of 5-3.

Only losses this year have come against the 2nd place Oakton Orioles (double header split), and the last place Centreville Blues. Bad loss against the 2-8 Blues, but we will chalk it up to being the first game of the season. We have swept the Bandits, one one against the Rockiest, and swept the Brewers last weekend. Can this Blues team be stopped??
After only a 4 win season last year this team has truly turned the corner and some of their young prospects have developed after a rigorous off season of training and calisthenics into full fledged ballplayers. This NV Blues team when they have their top guys in attendance are dangerous 1 through 9. Never have I seen a team assembled with such speed, power, situational hitting, and solid gloves.

A double header this Saturday, games Monday, Wednesday, and another two the following Saturday will be a huge test as arms will be short and legs will be sore. Oh Summer Baseball

When Pewch Men Travel

Just got off the phone with the Millman, he wanted me to post about his incredibly ominous trip to Vegas. From what I recall of a laundry list of mishaps along the way:

He got to the D.C. airport around 6 p.m. last night for a direct flight to Vegas. They kept delaying the flight a half-hour until finally at 10 canceling it, but trying to find the would-be travelers an alternative flight plan. At 11, they told them to come back 7:30 a.m. the next morning they'd have a flight to Boston to Phoenix and then to Vegas, ETA 3 p.m.

Millman went home (after I believe spending a few hours at the airport bar), steps back in this morning (Thursday) and the flight to Boston is delayed, when they finally get there he missed his connection and they, for some reason, rush him onto a flight to Philly. When he gets there he hops on a flight to Phoenix, though he doesn't have a ticket from Phoenix to Vegas, he feels getting out west is the best play at this point...when he finally arrives in Phoenix he has to order a new ticket from Southwest to get from there to Vegas, 4:45 flight, which he then gets bumped from and is currently waiting to (hopefully) catch a later flight and get in Vegas before tomorrow comes.

Just a pewch man making a pewch trip to do pewch things (I'm sure).

Update** Millman's latest flight experiencing mechanical difficulties. Could God scream at you any louder to stay out of Vegas? Something tells me Millman is too pewchtermined to get to Vegas and fulfill his manipewch destiny of losing a fortune and completing the all-time most miserable Vegas experience by anyone who didn't return home married or dead.

Update Part II** Breaks don't work, flight canceled. I'm assured by him that this is all fact. By the way, it should be mentioned that we had talked about betting on the women's tennis this morning (he was going to lay down some action when he got in last night) and decided the Williams sisters were too strong, but that the bet was actually Venus/Safina under 21 total games. 6-1, 6-0. Would've nailed it.

Update Part III** Mullman has in fact touched down, limo in wait - and I feel I gave him some strong Wimbledon plays to consider at the sports book. Hopefully his luck has turned.
